Te Tiriti o Waitangi
Te Kāhu Tiu recognises that Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) is our founding constitutional document and is part of the fabric of New Zealand society. We have therefore incorporated these Treaty principles in our programme’s design and implementation:
The principle of partnership
We will work together with our rangatahi, their family/whānau, iwi and communities to incorporate traditional cultural values, respect for family/whānau and community values, and promote inclusive decision-making processes.
The principle of participation
Empowering our rangatahi to actively participate in processes designed to learn critical skills and ultimately develop a positive connection with self, spirit, the environment and others.
The principle of protection
Providing an avenue to divert our rangatahi from the justice system and assisting them to build constructive and fulfilling futures.
